Maria Olson

Maria Olson is a seasoned nonprofit executive and strategic fundraising leader with 25+ years of experience building transformational philanthropic partnerships, leading high-performing teams, and creating innovative events that inspire generosity. Throughout her career, she has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for mission- driven organizations, with a particular focus on advancing cancer research, patient support, and healthcare innovation.

Maria joined PICI as chief advancement officer, where she is shaping the institute’s next chapter of philanthropic growth. Her work includes developing bold fundraising strategies, cultivating transformational donors, designing signature experiences, and creating partnerships that elevate awareness while accelerating breakthroughs in cancer immunotherapy.

Prior to PICI, Ms. Olson served in senior executive leadership at the American Cancer Society, where she led development efforts across the United States. Under her leadership, the organization achieved record fundraising growth, expanded principal giving initiatives, secured transformative philanthropic investments, and advanced ambitious capital campaigns, including support for a new Hope Lodge in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Known for her entrepreneurial mindset, collaborative leadership style, and ability to turn vision into action, Ms. Olson has built a reputation for creating meaningful donor experiences that connect philanthropy with purpose. Having lost both her mother and stepmother to cancer, she brings a deeply personal commitment to accelerating lifesaving research and improving outcomes for patients and families.
